Vedal Contractor – building for the future with quality, collaboration, and sustainability
The contractor firm Vedal demonstrates how long-term monitoring can make buildings safer, greener, and more predictable.
Why monitor the roof?
Roofs are among the building’s most exposed structures. Throughout their lifespan, they are subjected to large variations in weather, temperature, and moisture — factors that over time can cause damage that is both costly and environmentally burdensome to repair.
As part of its commitment to sustainable operations and quality at every level, Vedal has chosen to integrate Sensor Innovation’s moisture monitoring systems in several of its projects. The technology provides continuous insight into the condition of the roof structure and issues early warnings if moisture levels change.
“Installing moisture sensors on roofs offers documented benefits throughout the building’s entire lifetime, far beyond the warranty period. The technology contributes to safer operations and more efficient maintenance, giving the owner continuous insight into the roof’s actual condition,”
says John Fredrik Hove, Head of Aftermarket and Building Quality at Vedal.

From reaction to prevention
Traditionally, moisture damage is only discovered when it’s already too late — for example, when water has penetrated surfaces or when visible damage appears. With sensor technology installed directly in the roof structure, Vedal Entreprenør receives alerts long before such situations occur.
“Early warning of irregularities reduces the risk of extensive secondary damage and contributes to environmental benefits through less replacement work and more targeted maintenance,”
says Hove.
The into® Control System also builds a history of moisture conditions over time, providing valuable insight for service, ownership changes, or audits. If a leak occurs, logged data can reveal the connection between events and causes — for example, whether maintenance has recently been carried out on solar panels or ventilation units.
“This provides a stronger basis for determining responsibility and, in some cases, can positively influence insurance terms,”
Hove explains.
Data that reduces emissions
Smart monitoring isn’t just about operational safety — it’s also about sustainable buildings from a life-cycle perspective. By knowing exactly where and when action is needed, Vedal and the building owner can avoid unnecessary replacements and use resources where they truly matter. This results in lower material consumption, less waste, and reduced CO₂ emissions.
The system also enables smarter planning for the future. When new measures are to be implemented — such as installing solar panels or upgrading technical systems — there is full insight into the structure’s condition before work begins. This ensures confidence for the owner, contractor, and suppliers alike.
Vedal builds with the future in mind
For Vedal, quality is about more than skilled craftsmanship and solid construction — it’s about building with insight. By combining their extensive experience as a total contractor with modern sensor technology, Vedal is setting a new standard for documentation, safety, and operational efficiency in Norwegian construction projects.
This aligns with the company’s core values: long-term thinking, responsibility, collaboration, quality, and respect. Vedal doesn’t just build to complete a project — they build so that structures will function, evolve, and last for decades.
A competitive advantage in a greener industry
The construction industry is undergoing major changes, with sustainability, documentation, and life-cycle costs becoming increasingly important. Vedal views this not as a challenge, but as an opportunity. Through the use of Sensor Innovation’s monitoring systems, they demonstrate how technology and craftsmanship can go hand in hand to create smarter, more sustainable buildings.
“The sensor solution provides greater predictability, reduced operating costs, and a strong contribution to sustainable buildings from a life-cycle perspective,”
concludes Hove.
